Chapter 3: The Seven Stars Battle Festival Begins

All the way back at Hagun Academy, a girl opened her eyes in one of the rooms in the hospital ward.

“Mmm...”

She found herself staring up at an unfamiliar white ceiling.

Where am I? she thought, slightly confused. She didn’t recall being sent to the hospital, and she’d been unconscious for long enough that her mind was still fuzzy.

She reflexively pushed herself up into a sitting position and looked around. As the blanket slid off of her, the blonde-haired, blue-eyed girl sitting next to her bed, Toutokubara Kanata, turned away from the TV to look at her.

“Ah, you’re finally awake, Touka-chan! Thank goodness.”

Kanata breathed a sigh of relief, and Touka looked up at her.

“Kana-cha— Ack?!” She bit her tongue halfway through her first word. “I bith my thongue...”

“Your body’s still sluggish, so don’t push yourself. You’ve been asleep for quite a long time.”

“I have?” Why was I unconscious for so long?

As Touka started sifting through her memories, she heard one of the announcers on the TV shout, “And with that, we’re almost halfway through the first round of the Seven Stars Battle Festival. Our final match in the B block is one I know everyone’s excited to see! It’s Hagun Academy’s Crimson Princess, Stella Vermillion, versus Kyomon Academy’s Icy Sneer, Tsuruya Mikoto! We have a professional King of Knights member, Muroto, here to give additional commentary on—”

“Ah!” Upon hearing that voice, Touka remembered everything. She’d led the student council in a battle against Akatsuki’s students to protect Stella and had fallen to the Gale Emperor, Kurogane Ouma. She had no idea what had happened after that, so she turned to Kanata, pale-faced, and asked, “Kana-chan, wh-what happened after we lost?! How’s Stella-san doing?! Are Kurogane-kun and the others safe?!”

“Don’t worry, the Hagure sisters were able to protect Vermillion-san, and while Kurogane-kun was injured in the fighting, it was nothing serious. He was fully healed by the time he went to the tournament venue. All of us were defeated by Devices in phantom form, so physically, we’re all fine as well. You and the vice president just took so much damage that you’ve been in comas for a while, that’s all.”

“Uta-kun too?”

“Yes.”

Kanata gestured behind Touka, and Touka turned to see that Utakata was sleeping in the bed next to hers.

“Uta-kun...”

“It’s all right. Just like you, he needs time to sleep off the exhaustion. His life isn’t in any danger, and he’ll probably wake up in another day or two.”

“I see... Haaah...” Touka let out a relieved sigh. I guess I managed to do my job as student council president, at least.

If nothing else, it seemed Hagun Academy had managed to escape total destruction. That was more than good enough. And it had only been possible thanks to the comrades who’d fought alongside Touka.

“Thank you, Kana-chan.”

“Heh. Don’t forget to thank all the others too. I’m sure it’ll make them happy.”

“Yeah, I will.”

“Uh-oh! Looks like we’ve got a problem!” the announcer on the TV shouted suddenly.

“Oh, what’s all the commotion? Did something happen?”

“I don’t know.
